5 YEARS OF CREATING AND ESTABLISHING

Fishbone Records founder Panayiotis Savva came upon the idea of a record label in the winter of 2005 while studying audio engineering in Athens. Being just 21 years old mattered little - what he had seen first hand in Athens, record labels of all kinds and sizes producing and promoting all kinds of artists and music genres, was enough to set him on. A few weeks later, on 15 May 2005, Fishbone Records blossomed from an idea to a full - functional company.

Its humble beginnings were located in a converted upstairs room in his family home. And while the surroundings where humble the equipment used for the recording sessions was definitely not, taking up the lions share of the original capitol investment. This fascination with cutting – edge studio technology became a stable for Fishbone Records in the years to come, leading up to this day, where limited edition and cult – status equipment can be spotted throughout Fishbone Records office’s.
The idea is simple: Fishbone Records aims to offer our islands music community the same opportunities that people abroad can enjoy by providing music events, competitions, promotion, studio time, contacts and more.

Fishbone Records first event came together on 27th of December 2006 at club 11 in Larnaca. The line up included the cult Cyprus band U.B.A (United Beer Alliance), Dream Funeral and Death Habit (who later became Fishbone Records first signed band). Does this sound like a Heavy Metal concert? You bet it was! The respond was overwhelming and things began to move. A few months later Fishbone Records announced the arrival of Bands Fest, a music competition aimed at unsigned bands. Many responded and 15 of them from all over Cyprus competed, with three of them winning prizes that included studio time, cash prizes and more. Bands Fest has been a huge success and is now in its fourth year!

Fishbone Records did not sit still and wanting to give something back to the city of Larnaca organized and presented, along with Larnaca’s municipality, the first of hopefully many more to come, Scala Music Waves Festival. Staged in Laiki Gitonia and populated by talented underground acts this too was a huge success.
Fishbone Records is an independed – spirited record label with its eyes set on the talented undiscovered musician. Its not easy, in fact its almost always a struggle, but its never anything less than fun because the label’s founder and limited crew of helpers are in it for the music. Nothing more, nothing less.

Fishbone Records grew to house a graphics department, a management office, an agency and all there is to be offered by a professional record label. In addition Fishbone Records has established contacts with industry people on the island as well as abroad.

2010 signals the fifth birthday of Fishbone Records. In this five years Fishbone Records moved from the converted upstairs room in a spacious old mansion in the center of Larnaca. We organized music events, gigs and contests. We signed bands. We recorded and released music. We will do these some more because we like it. We like the business site of it we like the creative site of it.

Fishbone Records is on a mission to present talented musicians from all aspects of the music community. We feel we have moved things forward but we do not rest. We will keep on pushing. See you in five!
